SE faculty in training
Kari Elise Slinning
Kari Elise is a Norwegian gestalt therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner SEP working in Sweden. She is a mother of 3 and lives with her youngest daughter and husband in Stockholm.
Before turning to gestalt therapy in 1999, Kari Elise had a career as a classical musician; as a violinist and an orchestra conductor, working in professional symphony orchestras around Scandinavia.
Her MSc dissertation in gestalt therapy, “Free from Bulimia Nervosa”, was a phenomenological study based on interviews with people about their recovery process from eating disorders.
Kari Elise was for 7 years manager of the Swedish Eating Disorders Association “Healthy and Free”, a national NGO working with eating disorder prevention and support. After finishing her Somatic Experiencing training in Norway (2012) her longing for working with Somatic Experiencing led her to quit her job as manager. Since then she works exclusively as a SEP in her private practice in Stockholm, assists at SE trainings around the world and nowadays also teaches Introduction courses to Somatic Experiencing (SE-intros).
Together with some colleagues Kari Elise founded the Swedish Somatic Experiencing Association in 2013 and she was a member of the European Association for Somatic Experiencing (EASE) Board from 2015 to 2023.
Kari Elise has been an SE assistant since 2013 and is accredited Senior Assistant level 2 which means she offers sessions and consultations as well as group consultations to SE students. In October 2023 Kari Elise was approved by EFAC, European Faculty Accreditation Committee, to enter the mentoring program to become Somatic Experiencing Faculty.
